At breakfast, one of the workers who likes to tease me, put a fake snake on my shoulder. I let out a blood curdling scream, not to the amazement of 3 native officers who were on board clearing the ship and were just settling down for their breakfast.
We docked at Container Pier in downtown Pago Pago around 8:00am. Pago Pago is an unincorporated territory of the United States. Though American, the Samoan culture survives. Not long ago, it was hit by a tsunami.
With it being a Sunday, almost everything was closed and we only had 4 1/2 hours to explore.
We came upon a church that was performing a baby baptism. It was a spiritual experience as the music was sung in their native tongue. It was so beautiful.
This is Margaret who is 4 years old and absolutely adorable. Her little brother Juan was crying so their mother took them out of the church service as to not disturb others.
Then we checked out some interesting stores.
This is the first McDonalds we have seen in over 6 weeks and it even has a drive through! I did find a Mountain Dew in a small store also!
Their seat belts are recommended, but not enforced…
As we sailed away from Pago Pago we couldn’t help but think how nice the people were and how great it must be to live in a community of 4,000 and keep life so simple.
