We left Punta Arenas, Chile with bad weather in front of us. It wasn't long before we were in the middle of the storm in the Pacific the ship was thrown around like a tin can in the river, it was hard to sleep as we were almost rocked out of bed, walking was near impossible at the angles we had to position our bodies than hope the ship would not rock back the other way so as to crash us against the walls of the halls as it did several times in the first 2 days at sea. We are now four days at sea and the last 2 the ocean has calmed down the temperature has came up from around mid 30 to 68 degrees the shorts are back on and our stomachs have almost stopped churning from the movement of the ship yah. Were looking forward with excitement to Easter Island.
These pictures are from our cabin window. The sea howled and crashed all around us. When I told Jerry I was scared, he said “just find your way to the Lifeboat and I will be there!” Words of comfort. The Pacific Ocean encompasses one third of the Earth’s surface, making it the largest body of water with an area of 69.4 million square miles, with an average depth of 14,000 feet. That much water makes BIG waves!
Our daily schedule….
This is Andrei and it was his 24th Birthday so we presented him with a gift. He is the restaurant greater – super nice guy! Now everyone is telling us when their birthday is!
We attended a seminar on pearls. The pearls in the South Seas are normally colorful (not white and light pink). They range in color from gold to blues. Very expensive though. This was the drawing for a pearl necklace! A hand-strung necklace of 7mm gold pearls would cost upwards of $10,000. YIKES! I sure do love my white pearls!
Today, lunch was Mongolian. hmmmm. Thankfully salads are always available.
This was the ping pong tournament. My opponent in the white shirt, Saint Claire who whipped my butt, technically by 1 point. She said she has been playing for over 80+ years. And to be honest, I wanted to win! There were 16 of us and the guy that Jerry opposed ended up winning the tournament.
