Wednesday, April 4, 2012–Day 89 Safaga, Egypt

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JERRY – the love of my life!  Jerry got up bright and early and caught the sunrise!  What a beautiful day to be sailing the Red Sea.

Today I attended a flower arrangement class with Eddy the florist and made this bouquet for Jerry’s Birthday!

We arrived in Safaga, Egypt at around 3:00pm – a day early as we cruised fast through the pirate areas. Because of our early arrival, the port was not available so we dropped anchor and will make it to shore around 11:00pm.  They have removed all of the barbed wire, which we consider a good sign!

This was our first view of Safarga, Egypt from the port side…a bustling export center.

There were thousands, and I mean thousands, of jelly fish where we were docked.  Some were white, pink and purple. Amazing.

And the view from the  starboard side…the desert!

Safaga is known for its unpolluted atmosphere, black sand dunes and mineral springs which are purported to ease rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. Too bad we have a tour scheduled leaving at 6:45am and returning at 11:30pm tomorrow, otherwise I’d track down a mineral springs for us to soak in!

The sunset tonight was simply amazing – not only visually beautiful, but very spiritual.  The Muslims pray 5 times a day, and one of the times is at sunset.  Though we could not understand what they were saying, and keep in mind we are a distance from land, their chanting echoed through the port. It sounded beautiful.

Though it was a good day, it just doesn’t seem like a birthday celebration without you all.  We are missing family and friends greatly.
