Sunday, April 15, 2012–Day 100- Barcelona, Spain

The Captain’s prediction for a rough night at sea was right on. I am amazed we didn’t roll right out of bed! During the night we sailed on a westerly course entering the well-known area for the Mistral wind.  The Mistral wind is a strong, cold and usually dry regional wind in France, coming from the north or northwest, which accelerates when it passes through the valleys of the Rhone and the Durance Rivers to the coast of the Mediterranean. It has a major influence all along the Mediterranean coast of France and caused the sea to become rough.

We arrived at noon at Moll de Barcelona – it was a cold day. The ship had buses take us to the Columbus Statue, the center of the town. Across the street from the Columbus statue, people were dancing!

We hopped on the Barcelona City Tour bus and set out to see the city. Our first impression was the awesome architecture. The buildings were gorgeous and there is an ambiance about the city. There are a lot of people gathering in the parks and markets.

This is where the Olympic Games were held in 1992; and this was the Olympian’s housing.

We got off the bus as the rain was coming down hard. We walked, and walked…and walked. We were completely soaked, and completely lost. We came to the end of the harbor that was blocked off with 8 police cars.  We were lost in the rain. We turned around and walked to the nearest road to hail a cab.

We ordered in room service, played Yatzee and are trying to thaw! Hopefully we’ll have better weather tomorrow so we can better explore Barcelona.

We’ve reached a landmark today as we were presented with these medallions for sailing 100 days on this trip.
